Hey everyone! Today, I have an excerpt to share with you from All the Feels by Danika Stone! Plus, we have a great giveaway for you to enter! First, here’s more about the book!

ATFCollege freshman Liv is more than just a fangirl: The Starveil movies are her life… So, when her favorite character, Captain Matt Spartan, is killed off at the end of the last movie, Liv Just. Can’t. Deal.

Tired of sitting in her room sobbing, Liv decides to launch an online campaign to bring her beloved hero back to life. With the help of her best friend, Xander, actor and steampunk cosplayer extraordinaire, she creates #SpartanSurvived, a campaign to ignite the fandom. But as her online life succeeds beyond her wildest dreams, Liv is forced to balance that with the pressures of school, her mother’s disapproval, and her (mostly nonexistent and entirely traumatic) romantic life. A trip to DragonCon with Xander might be exactly what she needs to figure out what she really wants.

And now for the excerpt! Enjoy!

Excerpt #2: From All the Feels, Chapter 2

Spartan Forum, 2:15 a.m.
New thread, topic: Spartan Rescue Mission
@SpartanSurvived:

ATTN: All members of the Starveil Rebellion. Many of you have heard that Captain Matt Spartan, commander of the Star Freighter Elysium, has been reported missing in action. Surveillance footage from the final escape pod shows the Elysium being destroyed, but in the last hours, there have been multiple reports of an unidentified transceiver messaging in the Omega Quadrant.

We need you, soldiers. Spartan needs you. Look for evidence. Find reports, word-of-mouth testimony, footage if you can. If we have any hope of finding Spartan alive, it will come down to your ingenuity and determination. This rescue message must spread far and wide. Post your findings on all fandom platforms using the hashtag: #SpartanSurvived

THIS IS YOUR CALL TO ACTION.

@SpartanSurvived

~*~*~

Liv chewed her lower lip, rereading the text once and again. Leaving a post like this on one of the busiest Starveil forums was a call to arms. It was so outrageous – so arrogant – she couldn’t doubt the potential for ridicule. Trolls loved tearing apart things like this.

And if they decided to start flaming her post, they’d burn her idea down to the ground. But if she didn’t post it, she’d never know.

Her fingers drummed on the armrest. Post or not. That was the big question.

Liv lifted her phone, scrolling through her texts. There was one from Joanne. It had arrived while she was out with Xander.

@Joeswoes: So upset over that stupid ending, Liv. How do you get over losing a character you love? Spartan’s REAL to me. He’s my baby, you know? :(

Liv did know. He was her baby too. He was everyone’s! And by killing the character off they’d wounded an entire community of fans. She reread Joe’s text, her finger hovering over reply for a long moment.

She set the phone down again.

Her gaze darted back to the computer screen. THIS IS YOUR CALL TO ACTION. If she posted this, it needed to be real. She needed people to believe Spartan could come back. They needed to trust that he’d made it out of the ship. It couldn’t just be fangirl to fangirl, writing Starveil AU’s that never really happened. This would be the guerrilla warfare of character ships. The fans would have to reweave the details they had into a new explanation of those last seconds of film. They’d take no prisoners, leave no wounded fans behind. But, as in any war, that meant the intel behind the revolution had to stay secret for as long as possible.

Fandom had to believe.

Liv released her breath, heart beating in her temple. It’s up to you to make your happy ending.

She hit post.

Eros is a rebel soldier hated by aliens and human alike for being a half-blood. Yet that doesn’t stop him from defending his people, at least until Kora’s soldiers raze his camp and take him captive. Sunday Street Team: Rebel Mechanics by Shanna Swendson (Interview + Giveaway)

SST_FullSizeRender

Sunday Street Team is hosted by Nori @ ReadWriteLove28

Hey everyone! Today, I have Shanna Swendson, author of Rebel Mechanics, here with an interview! First, here’s the cover and synopsis for Rebel Mechanics:

Rebel Mechanics A sixteen-year-old governess becomes a spy in this alternative U.S. history where the British control with magic and the colonists rebel by inventing.

It’s 1888, and sixteen-year-old Verity Newton lands a job in New York as a governess to a wealthy leading family—but she quickly learns that the family has big secrets. Magisters have always ruled the colonies, but now an underground society of mechanics and engineers are developing non-magical sources of power via steam engines that they hope will help them gain freedom from British rule. The family Verity works for is magister—but it seems like the children’s young guardian uncle is sympathetic to the rebel cause. As Verity falls for a charming rebel inventor and agrees to become a spy, she also becomes more and more enmeshed in the magister family’s life. She soon realizes she’s uniquely positioned to advance the cause—but to do so, she’ll have to reveal her own dangerous secret.

And now here’s the interview! Enjoy!

Question: Rebel Mechanics will be out in two weeks (and will celebrate its Book Birthday two days after this interview goes live!)!!! How does it feel? Are you nervous? Excited?
Answer: I am really excited! I’ve been working on this book for so long, and I can’t wait for readers to start finding it. I’m always a bit nervous about the release of a book because it’s like sending a little piece of myself out into the world, but at the same time I’m very proud of it and I hope people love it as much as I do.

Question: Describe your book in ten words or less. Go!
Answer: Jane Eyre meets the Scarlet Pimpernel and starts a revolution.

Question: Rebel Mechanics sounds AMAZING. What inspired the idea for the story?
Answer: A lot of things came together to create this story. I wanted to play with steampunk because it looks cool and I love Victorian things. I was somewhat inspired by the book Jane Eyre, in that when I found myself looking at my bookcase and saw that book, it made me think that a governess would be a good character to write about in a steampunk story. There’s an incident in the first chapter that was inspired by something I was being snarky about when I was discussing a book I read, and it ended up being a big part of the plot. And I just wanted to write a fun adventure story with trains and airships and other cool stuff that also looks pretty.

Question: You’ve written/published several books for adults. What made you decide to write a book for young adults? Do you prefer writing YA or adult?
Answer: My agent’s been trying for years to get me to write a YA book because she thinks my voice would fit well. My earlier books are very teen friendly, and I have a lot of younger readers. The School Library Journal even listed my Enchanted, Inc. as being an adult book that teen readers would like. I actually initially wrote Rebel Mechanics as an adult book, but since the characters were pretty young, we also submitted to YA publishers, and they were the ones who were more open to it. I guess my earlier books were adult books that might also appeal to teens, and this book is a teen book that might also appeal to adults. I really just write books with characters who are the ages they need to be, and I let the publishers decide where to shelve them.

Question: Your previous books (The Enchanted, Inc. series and The Fairy Tale series) were all about fairy tales and magic. With Rebel Mechanics, you’re venturing into history, rebellion and espionage. Was it fun writing about something different or do you still prefer fairy tales?
Answer: When you look at what’s going on in Rebel Mechanics, I think a lot of those fairy tale themes are still there. We have secret identities, hidden magic, noblemen, a fancy ball, and even a “prince” of sorts. In some respects, it’s closer to traditional fairy tales than the contemporary books are. It’s just in a different setting with a different kind of big-picture plot. The only real difference is that the characters are wearing different clothes and are in a different world.

Question: Think back to when your first book was published. What’s the best thing you’ve experienced so far? Best encounter with a reader?
Answer: Perhaps my biggest “wow, my life is so cool” moments was when I was at the party hosted by my previous publisher at the World Science Fiction Convention. The party was a boat tour on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. I started the evening chatting with Alan Dean Foster, who was one of the first science fiction authors I ever read and a favorite my whole life. Then later I spent quite a while chatting with Connie Willis, one of my current favorite authors, and her husband. I ended up having a wacky conversation about Gilligan’s Island conspiracy theories with George R.R. Martin. And they were all treating me like a peer. I think I was acting totally cool about it, but at the same time my inner fangirl was freaking out about how amazing all this was.

As for my best reader encounter, this wasn’t in person, but I got an e-mail from someone whose mother had had a stroke. She was conscious, but not really responsive, and so this person started reading to her. When she read my series, her mother actually seemed to respond to it and became more aware, like she was really hearing it and wanted to know what happened next. That gave me shivers, to think that my work had affected someone that way.

Question: If you could go back and tell your pre-published self one thing, what would it be?
Answer: Write what you want to read and don’t worry about what’s currently hot. I spent a lot of time chasing trends and trying to be something I wasn’t rather than writing what mattered to me. That’s why my career has a big gap in it.

Question: Craziest thing you’ve had to Google for a WIP?
Answer: For Rebel Mechanics, I spent a lot of time looking for videos of steam engines at work. They weren’t just used for trains. There were steam tractors, and some are still working. Apparently, there are whole festivals around steam-powered vehicles, and fortunately they post videos from these.

Question: I know Rebel Mechanics isn’t out yet, but I’m dying to know – are you working on anything new?
Answer: I’m at work on the third book in my Fairy Tale series, but I’m also starting preliminary research on a sequel to Rebel Mechanics.

Hey everyone! Today, I have Katherine Locke, author of Second Postion, here with a guest post! First, here’s the cover and synopsis for Second Position:

Second PositionFour years ago, a car accident ended Zedekiah Harrow’s ballet career and sent Philadelphia Ballet principal dancer Alyona Miller spinning toward the breakdown that suspended her own. What they lost on the side of the road that day can never be replaced, and grief is always harshest under a spotlight…

Now twenty-three, Zed teaches music and theatre at a private school in Washington, D.C. and regularly attends AA meetings to keep the pain at bay. Aly has returned to D.C. to live with her mother while trying to recover from the mental and physical breakdown that forced her to take a leave of absence from the ballet world, and her adoring fans.

When Zed and Aly run into each other in a coffee shop, it’s as if no time has passed at all. But without the buffer and escape of dance—and with so much lust, anger and heartbreak hanging between them—their renewed connection will either allow them to build the together they never had…or destroy the fragile recoveries they’ve only started to make.

SECOND POSITION author Katherine Locke’s Five Favorite New Adult Romances

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by on this blog tour. My New Adult romance SECOND POSITION comes out 4/13 from Carina Press and I am excited for you to read it! (Links etc at the bottom)

Until then, however, I thought I’d drop a few book recommendations on your lap to keep you happy and well-read! Here are my five favorite New Adult books you should definitely pick up. (As a disclaimer, I should say most of these books have adult language and situations and are 18+ ;))

Faking It by Cora Carmack: This is the second book in Cora Carmack’s first New Adult series (other titles: Losing It and Finding It) and it remains one of my favorites. Cade’s trying to get over his unrequited crush, and Mackenzie (Max) is trying to convince her parents that she has her life together. Since Max’s real boyfriend is…less savory, shall we say and definitely not the guy you bring home to your parents, she convinces Cade to pretend to be her boyfriend. Except…maybe Max is exactly who Cade needs to get over his heartbreak and get him out of his rut, and maybe Cade is exactly who Max needs to start living her life honestly. Except, maybe, they aren’t faking it at all… This is one of the rare books where the heroine is JUST as swoony as the hero is. I love Max. She’s all mine. So is Cade but I can share!

I See London by Chanel Cleeton is the first in the International School series and boy did I enjoy this series. I recommend starting at the beginning with this book. Maggie, an American, decides to go to an international school in London for college where she finds herself surrounded by wealth way beyond her own, and significantly over her head with the guys around her. Especially when it comes to Samir, a French-Lebanese student who likes to be frustrating. Oh, and he also likes to kiss her. And he’s a really good kisser. I love Chanel’s writing and this whole series was beautiful, fun, and oh man is Samir swoony. Swoon for days.

Boomerang by Noelle August is a fun little ride that definitely opens with a bang. So to speak. Mia and Ethan wake up in the same bed after a crazy night out, and when they head out to their respective days…they show up at the same internship. Turns out they’re competing for the same job at the end of the summer. Just imagine the awkward seeping through the pages at this point. Oh, and internship rule: they can’t date. But that’s easier said than done, obviously, and the crazy wild path of a marketing internship & post-college romance is fantastically done. And I love how comfortable Mia is with her body. It’s remarked upon several times and rightfully so because it’s so unusual. Yes for body-positive heroines!

Everly After by Rebecca Paula is dark, moody, and deeply romantic. In full disclosure, Rebecca’s one of my critique partners and I couldn’t have written Second Position without her. Everly After is the story of Everly, an American heiress, who is trying to leave her hard-partying ways behind and hide from the real life in France. But that’s easier said than done. Beckett’s a war journalist on leave after an assignment that went downhill. When they run into each other, they can’t help the attraction, but they also can’t undo their pasts. There’s no such thing as clear sailing in this book. I loved Everly After from the first time I read it. This is a book about messy people who make mistake, after mistake, after mistake, and they fall down more than they get up (even if that’s not physically possible.) The romance sparks right off the page and to your surprise, you’ll find yourself rooting for Beckett and Everly to be okay. The writing is exquisite too.

Last Will and Testament by Dahlia Adler: Full disclosure, I beta-read this one too! But that doesn’t mean I can’t recommend it because I LOVE LIZZIE. This book’s about Lizzie, a college student who suddenly becomes the guardian to her two younger brothers after their parents are killed in a car accident. She has to pull her grades up and keep her scholarship suddenly, which throws her directly into the path of her TA Connor. He can’t really dress himself but whatever, Lizzie can see past that. This isn’t your typical student/teacher relationship, and Lizzie’s definitely not getting a Substitute Mother of the Year Award. But she’s doing the best she can, and the realness of Connor and Lizzie’s relationship keeps you turning pages. You’ll miss your stop on the train for this one.
