Allies, once inseparable, splinter until they break apart.

An insidiousness carves its way through Wonderland, challenging the land’s very existence.

Battle lines will be drawn as pages, long languishing in darkness, are finally illuminated.

Swords will clash, blood will be spilled, and lives will be lost.

For what is written can still be erased.

Hey everyone! Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for The Lost Codex by Heather Lyons! I’m very excited to be a part of this blog tour! I knew this book was going to be an emotional roller coaster because I’ve read all of Heather’s books. She’s amazing and her books are ALWAYS amazing and this series is ESPECIALLY amazing!!!!! But I also know she feeds on the tears of her readers, so I did my best to emotionally prepare myself… There was no emotionally preparing myself though… *Takes deep, shuddery breath*

So yeah… Without further adieu, I hope you enjoy my review! And after that, check out which villain I would like to see in the The Collectors’ Society world!

(REVIEW UPDATED 11/27/16)

~*~*~

This book broke me so bad, I don’t even know if I can form coherent sentences. The feels were powerful and the emotions were strong and I’m still hurting from this book hangover, even though I finished this book eleven days ago*. (*As of when I updated this review on 11/27/16)

via GIPHY

So.. I mean, I don’t even know where to start. Or how to be normal and coherent in this review. There’s a good chance I’ll be a babbling fool, honestly… So let’s just begin.

Alice is fierce and brave and amazing. I love her in the modern world and I seriously ship her and Finn together, but she BELONGS in Wonderland. She is a true queen, a leader. And her leadership, guidance and strong hand are needed in Wonderland. Her people need her. And as much as I adore Finn – poor Finn… – I seriously think I ship her more with the White King. But maybe that’s just the part of me that ships royal couples and prefers Wonderland to modern-day NYC..?

I still absolutely adore Mary, but I’m still dying to see her in her own timeline *Stares at Heather…* My heart broke for her and Victor in this book, but I’m satisfied with where the story ended, though it was a rough path to the end!

The A.D. has become one of my new favorite characters! He’s changed so much and he’s such a comic relief, which is MUCH NEEDED, considering the hell Heather puts her characters through!

As for the Librarian is….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY CRAP HER IDENTITY REVEAL WAS INSANE AND OMG I CAN’T EVEN WITH THE TEASING AND THE HINTS AND THE RED HERRINGS AND HOLY CRAP!!!

via GIPHY

I mean I just.. I don’t even know what else to say at this point. Like… look at these review notes:

screen-shot-2016-11-27-at-6-35-59-pm
I mean.. I just… I can’t…. This book was emotionally exhausting in all the best ways. I’ve always highly recommended Heather and her books and I obviously highly recommend this book, as well as this series. I’m 99% sure this is my favorite series of all her books. The emotional roller coaster, the feels, the craziness – it WILL drain you. But by the end, you’ll be so satisfied, you won’t even care! That’s the magic of Heather Lyons and her epic stories. So yeah… GO READ THEM!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Now for some fun!! We were asked to answer an intriguing question for this blog tour:

villain

My answer: Ursula from The Little Mermaid (the Disney version)

via GIPHY

Ursula always creeped me out as a kid. Especially the scene depicted in the GIF above.. *Shudders* She’s so evil and vindictive.. Her hatred for King Triton fuels her desire to destroy Ariel.

via GIPHY

Ursula has NO redeeming qualities. She doesn’t just seek to destroy Triton by destroying his daughter. She ACTIVELY intervenes to make sure the mermaid princess can’t achieve her goal within the contracted timeframe.

via GIPHY

via GIPHY

I think she would be a formidable foe for the Collectors’ Society team. She’s manipulative and cunning and her magic is fairly strong. with her ability to change her appearance, she can blend in and sneak right past them without them even knowing. Her ability to change her appearance also means she’s not limited to causing mayhem in the oceans – she can also access land.

Just imagine the harm she could cause, the catalysts she could destroy – or worse, warp with her magic into something evil… *Gulps*

Fans of The Royal We will not want to miss this epic love story!

Every decade, the world’s monarchs and their heirs secretly convene to discuss global politics and social issues—and arrange marriages between kingdoms.

Elsa may be the Hereditary Princess of Vattenguldia, but she finds the entire situation archaic and unsavory. While she wants what's best for her country, she isn't about to jump into an unwanted relationship—let alone a marriage—with a virtual stranger. Of course, her feelings matter little to her parents, whose wheeling and dealings over trade pacts and alliances achieved at her expense begin the moment they set foot in California for the Summit. So when a blindingly handsome royal runs into her, she doesn't hesitate to tell him there's no way she's marrying him.

Christian is all too happy to agree: no marriage. As the Hereditary Grand Duke of Aiboland, his main goal is to get through the summit without a bride being foisted on him. Which is why he suggests they help each other field potential intendeds. As Christian slowly gets to know Elsa, though, he realizes they have a lot more in common than just their feelings about the Royal Marriage Market. Only he can't fall for her, because royal or not, they're not meant for each other.

Elsa and Christian will have to evaluate matters of the heart verses those of state and crown, and decide whether or not tradition trumps love.

This is my tenth Heather Lyons book and I don’t even know what to say anymore. She’s epic, her books are epic, read her books!!! *Drops mic. Walks away.*

Oh, you actually want to know more about this book? Oh.. I thought the above covered it? No? Okay…

Royal Marriage Market was epic and amazing. Every time I read one of Heather’s books, I swoon and flail and call it my favorite. But then she writes another book and I swoon and flail all over again. Really, I don’t think I could pick a favorite Heather Lyons book because they’re all amazing. However, Royal Marriage Market is DEFINITELY up there near the top! I loved the characters, the plot, the resolution and the ending! So.. everything. I loved everything about this book!

I adored Elsa! She was incredibly spunky and fierce, torn between loving her people and wanting love for herself. She knew how to pick her battles – when to speak her mind versus when to stay silent and let the chips fall where they may. She actually reminded me a lot of Alice from The Collectors’ Society, another Heathery Lyons book!

Christian was an awesome character. He, like Elsa, understood his duty to his throne and his people, but he also wanted to live his life as he wished. He knew how to be a gentlemen, but he was also stubborn and a bit outspoken – as was Elsa. Their banter was hilariously epic! I shipped them pretty much right from the beginning! They were just absolutely perfect for each other! For almost the entire book, I was either cackling in amusement or doing a *head desk* at the things they said and did. They also had some super hot, steamy scenes… *Fans self!!!*

I adored the secondary characters in this book, as well. Heather really knows how to write amazing characters! I loved Charlotte and Parker – their relationships with Elsa and Christian (respectively), their loyalty, the integral roles they played near the end – they were just epic. Christian’s brother, Lukas, was the consummate playboy, but the friendship and understanding between him and Christian was epic. They were able to commiserate together, but they were also willing to “sacrifice” (in a completely comical way) each other if it meant escaping the clutches of their evil, heinous mother. Lukas spoke his mind, without any care as to who heard or what others thought. I would LOVE to see a spin-off with him! As for Elsa’s sister, Isabelle, I didn’t really have an opinion of her until the end. Then I adored her and how much she truly loved her sister. Without her – and the things she did to ensure they both had a happily ever after – things would not have ended the way they did.

There are a ton of other characters I should probably talk about, but that’ll take forever. So, to make a long story short, these characters are EPIC! Okay? Okay!

Basically, in my mind, this book is The Swan Princess meets Romeo & Juliet meets The Royal We (though, I must confess, I haven’t read The Royal We, but from what I’ve heard, the comparison fits!). The only reason I mention The Swan Princess is because, for a good chunk of the beginning of the book, the song “This Is My Idea” was stuck in my head! In fact, I’m listening to it now as I review.. ^_^

But yeah.. Just the way Elsa and Christian were so dead-set against the Summit and what it meant and the way they clashed in the beginning – it all seriously reminded me of The Swan Princess!

Bunny ears

Plus, the way they fought against their parents – and their parents’ desire to marry them off to strangers for political gain, rather than love.

Fighting parents

And then that ending!!!! The ending was incredibly complex, twisted and epic. Seeing all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place? Perfection. It was a little open-ended, but in a completely satisfying way. It felt realistic and I’m REALLY hoping for a sequel with Elsa and Christian or – as I mentioned above – a spin-off with Lukas!

Kissing

So, as usual, I HIGHLY recommend this book, plus every book Heather Lyons has ever written! If you love books about royalty, hate-to-love relationships and open-ended, semi-HEA’s, you’ll LOVE this book!!!

After years spent in Wonderland, Alice Reeve learned the impossible was quite possible after all. She thought she left such fantastical realities behind when she finally returned to England.

Now Alice has become a member of the clandestine Collectors’ Society, and the impossible has found her again in the form of an elusive villain set on erasing entire worlds. As she and the rest of the Society race to bring this mysterious murderer to justice, the fight becomes painfully personal.

Lives are being lost. Loved ones are shattered or irrevocably altered. Each step closer Alice gets to the shadowy man she hunts, the more secrets she unravels, only to reveal chilling truths. If she wants to win this war and save millions of lives, Alice must once more embrace the impossible and make the unimaginable, imaginable.

Sometimes, the rabbit hole leads to terrifying places.

The Forgotten Mountain is Heather Lyons’ ninth published book – and I’ve read all nine of her books and each and every one is an epic win. I’m actually getting to a point where I can’t formulate words to describe how amazing Heather and her books are – or I repeat the same things I’ve said in every single review of her books, but they’re all still 100% true – Heather is an amazing writer and storyteller. She creates amazing worlds that feel real and multi-dimensional characters that feel like real people. I’m always anxious for her to publish a new book and when I do find out she has a new one coming out, I’m like

The second I picked up The Forgotten Mountain, I fell right back into this amazing world. It was like no time had passed since I finished The Hidden Library (which I read in February). I know it’s probably cheesy, but it felt like coming home after a long vacation.

Alice has always been a fierce, epic character – and one of my all-time favorite MC’s. But in The Forgotten Mountain, she was especially so – and sometimes a bit scary, too! So you have an idea what I mean, here are some epic/scary quotes from Alice:

“Madness – that old, dear friend of mine – has come home for a visit. And I welcome its return with open arms.”

“I do not play by his rules. I play by mine and mine alone.”

But she was scary because she was determined and loyal – to Finn, to the other members of the Collectors’ Society, to Wonderland and, most importantly, to herself. With every book, she keeps growing, maturing and coming into herself. And I love that about her.

As always, I adored Finn! His… predicament in this book… Was terrifying and upsetting and heartbreaking. The cliffhanger from the last book was RIDICULOUS and I’m still upset we had to wait so long to learn his fate! But I loved where his character went in this book. Alice and Finn are one of my top favorite ships and I absolutely adore them together! They make each other stronger and bring out the best in each other! And then the way the book ended…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I’ll get more into that in a bit.

I still love Mary and still want more of her story. I’d love a novella from her POV or a spin-off with her. I’d love to see her back in her world, especially. I think that would be epic and hilarious! *Stares at Heather… Makes puppy eyes…* She’s just an amazing character – smart, determined, loyal. She’s not the best fighter, but she holds her own in a fight and pulls her weight in other ways. I adore her and Victor and the way their relationship always thrives, despite the things they’ve been through. Although that ending…!!!!!!!!!!!

Of all the characters, the Artful Dodger (A.D.) had the most character growth in The Forgotten Mountain. His character always felt a bit one-sided in the previous books, but we saw a LOT of different sides to him and learned a lot more about him this time. He’s a fierce fighter, smart, sly and a ladies man – or so he thinks! I’m definitely excited to see more of him in the next book!

I really like Wendy and Sarah and I’m hoping they get happy endings. Marianne is still a great character, as well. I like the way she fits in with the group, despite their uncertainty about her in The Hidden Library. I still like the Librarian, but I don’t really trust her anymore.. And I’m DYING to know her real identity! And Brom, as usual, was a great character.

The pacing in this book was excellent. There was always enough action to keep the plot moving forward, but not so much that it felt exhausting. Heather’s writing gets better with every book she does – and that’s saying a lot because her writing has always been exceptional! Her writing – coupled with the plot and where the characters all were in their journey(s) – made this book the best one in the series (so far) – and again, that’s saying a lot because I’ve loved every book in this series! All the characters are at the height of their character development; they’re all fierce and strong and loyal. The plot is intriguing and the story really hit a major turning point. No one is holding back now! It was epic and amazing!

And then that ending!!!!!!!!!

I thought the cliffhanger at the end of The Hidden Library was evil but this… this.. this… GAH!!!! HEATHER, WHY?!?!?!?!?!?! These status updates from Goodreads basically sum up my feelings at the end of the book:

87.0% “Ooohhhh…… *Gulps*”
88.0% “Oh crap!!”
88.0% “OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!”
91.0% “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????!!!!!!!!!!!?????”
97.0% “Omfg!!!!!!!!!!!! No no no no!!!!!!!!!”
97.0% “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Seriously, I have no idea how I’m going to survive the next few months, waiting for book four to come out!

So, obviously, I adored this book! I adore all of Heather’s book! And – as usual – I HIGHLY recommend this book (plus the first two, if you haven’t read them). Plus all her other books. All of them. Like.. Go read them all right now. I’ll wait… *Sits, stares creepily at you…*

Sometimes, the rabbit hole is deeper than expected . . .

Alice Reeve and Finn Van Brunt have tumbled into a life of secrets. Some secrets they share, such as their employment by the clandestine organization known as The Collectors’ Society. Other secrets they carry within them, fighting to keep buried the things that could change everything they think they know.

On the hunt for an elusive villain who is hell-bent on destroying legacies, Alice, Finn, and the rest of the Society are desperate to unravel the mysteries surrounding them. But the farther they spiral down this rabbit hole, the deeper they fall into secrets that will test their loyalties and pit them against enemies both new and old.

Secrets, they come to find, can reveal the deadliest of truths.

Heather Lyons has done it again! And no, I’ll never get tired of reminding you guys what an epic, amazing, wonderful author and person Heather is! I’ve loved all her books and I think you should go read them all right now. Like, if you asked me to pick a favorite, I think I’d break down in tears because HOW CAN I PICK A FAVORITE?!? *Clears throat* Anyway… As with The Collectors’ Society, The Hidden Library spoke to my book nerdy soul. I loved being back in this world with these characters. It felt like no time had passed between reading The Collectors’ Society and picking up The Hidden Library; I fell right back into the story, no problem.

Alice is one of my all-time favorite characters. First of all, I’m obsessed with Alice in Wonderland and Wonderland retellings. So it should come as no surprise that I love this Alice. I said it in my review of The Collectors’ Society and I’ll say it again: Alice is a kick-butt, take charge character. She’s no damsel in distress and can stand on her own and fight her way through any problem. I still got a kick out of her fumbling through modern technology and couldn’t help but speak in a British accent for all her parts. Alice can also be scary at times.. *Gulps.. sneaks away*

Finn!!! My poor, poor Finn went through hell in this book! I absolutely loved learning about Finn’s past finally, but I felt so bad for him and everything he’s had to deal with in his life. He’s also super hilarious and sarcastic and I found myself snickering during a lot of his parts. Of course I shipped him and Alice beyond any doubt. They’re perfect together, they understand each other and they work so well together. They’re one of my Top 5 Favorite Ships of all time. And then that ending… !!!!!! I nearly had a heart attack – twice!!!! I kept trying to flip pages to read more because I couldn’t believe that was it! MY POOR FINN!!!

Now let’s talk about Jace… I didn’t talk much about him in my review of The Collectors’ Society because it was too much of a spoiler. But I think it’s impossible to review this book without talking about him. So… Jace (AKA The White King). I don’t even know where to begin. He’s epic and amazing and swoony and I know this technically isn’t a love triangle and I truly do ship Alice and Finn but… When Alice and Jace get together, I feel all the feels! Like, ALL THE FEELS!!! I just adore Jace so much, even if he and Alice can’t be together, I still want him to get his happily ever after. With everything he’s done and all that he’s sacrificed, he deserves it… *Glares at Heather* Hear that?!?! HAPPY ENDING FOR JACE!

I still love Mary. She’s like my third favorite character (After Alice and Finn). I love her character in general, but I also love the classic she’s from, so that fuels my desire to read about her and learn more about her. I also ship her and Victor like crazy!!! Victor was also awesome and hilarious in this. I worried for him, though. I’d love to see him back in his original timeline. I have a feeling it would be just as.. explosive.. As Finn in his timeline!

Other notable characters are Brom, Wendy, The Librarian and Marianne. I love them all, I want to get to know them all more and I can’t wait to see where their stories are taken in book three!!

As I mentioned in my review of The Collectors’ Society, the villains in this book are epic. They’re insane and show no remorse for their actions and I hate them for that, but they’re also so.. Brilliant. And twisted. Especially the one villain.. In this classic character’s story, this person is beloved. So to see this person as evil.. It was kind of awesome yet insane at the same time. I can’t wait to see where things go in the third book with this particular villain!

And Gabe… Oh, Gabe… I didn’t trust him from the very beginning. Not for a second. Weirdly enough, I pictured him as Simon Baker in his The Devil Wears Prada role, being a total stuck-up, self-absorbed jerk… I really can’t stand Simon Baker, by the way. So that tells you how I felt about Gabe.. Grrrr. But still, as much as I didn’t trust him, that ending was still mind blowing and I can’t wait to see what devious plots he throws at our beloved characters in book three!

And then that ending!!!!!!! That crazy, insane, MEAN, cliffhanger of an ending!!!! I was reading the eBook of this and I kept swiping my iPad, trying to read more, praying there was more!! And then… There wasn’t… And I was sad.. And gasping.. And BOOK THREE NOW PLEASE!!! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!!

So… *Clears throat* I’m pretty sure that was my least professional review ever. But I can’t help it when it comes to Heather’s books. There’s so much epic and swoony and crazy, it’s hard to form coherent thoughts to write a review. But anyway… I HIGHLY recommend this book (plus the first one, if you haven’t read it). Plus all her other books. All of them. Like.. Go read them all right now. I’ll wait… *Sits, stares creepily at you…*

From the author of the Fate series and The Deep End of the Sea comes a fantastical romantic adventure that has Alice tumbling down the strangest rabbit hole yet.

After years in Wonderland, Alice has returned to England as an adult, desperate to reclaim sanity and control over her life. An enigmatic gentleman with an intriguing job offer too tempting to resist changes her plans for a calm existence, though. Soon, she’s whisked to New York and initiated into the Collectors’ Society, a secret organization whose members confirm that famous stories are anything but straightforward and that what she knows about the world is only a fraction of the truth.

It’s there she discovers villains are afoot—ones who want to shelve the lives of countless beings. Assigned to work with the mysterious and alluring Finn, Alice and the rest of the Collectors’ Society race against a doomsday clock in order to prevent further destruction . . . but will they make it before all their endings are erased?

*This is the first book in the Collectors' Society series.

Every book Heather Lyons has written is amazing. And if you asked me to recommend only one of her books, I wouldn’t be able to pick just one. They’re all amazing for one reason or another. They all hold a special place in my heart for one reason or another. But The Collectors’ Society is different. It’s more than just a story. It’s several stories told within a larger story. It has so many beloved characters and unforgettable worlds and it pulls you into each and every one of those characters’ stories. Most importantly, it breathes new life into old classics, making you want to read them for the first time (if you haven’t already) or re-read old favorites.

I loved Alice pretty much right from the beginning. It was entertaining, watching her adjust to the 21st Century. And it was endearing, seeing her growth from beginning to end. She showed a lot of maturity in the decisions she made. She was also a kick-butt character and I loved seeing that. Alice really shined in the second half of the book, especially. She became the ________ she was meant to be (Eep, avoiding spoilers!). She really embraced who she was and who she was fated to be. I would have loved to see more of this part of her life – and maybe we will in book two! *Stares at Heather…* I also really loved Heather’s version of Wonderland and her take on Wonderland history. I don’t want to go into too many details, but I really loved the way Heather stayed true to the original while building upon it and making it even better.

Finn!!!! I can’t express how much I loved Finn. He was epic and amazing and wonderful and perfect. Which isn’t surprising, with how well Heather writes swoony boys! I’ve never read the original classic his story is based on, but I know enough about it that I was excited when I found out who he was. He has such a haunted past; in some ways, he’s grown from it and in some ways, he’s still clinging to what was. But through it all, he was amazing and loyal and I adore him.

One of my favorite characters was Mary, mostly because I love, love, love the story she’s from. Again, I haven’t read the original classic she’s from, but I used to read the “kid” versions when I was little and I loved, loved the movie version from the 90s. I don’t even think I can put into words how perfect Heather’s depiction of Mary was. She was slightly bratty and whiny, with an adultness to her… Does that even make sense? I think this conversation with Alice best describes Mary:

“Why Mary,” [Alice] said, “Were you not a good girl in your book?”

“I was a wretched bitch when I was younger,” [Mary] says cheerfully. “And I can still be so as an adult. My filter is close to none. But, let us not be fully defined by what some people scribbled down centuries before, right? Books don’t tell every detail, nor can they fully represent us as living, breathing individuals.”

Now, I forgot to mark down where in the book that was and I might not have it 100% verbatim. But you get the idea. Mary fully accepts how awful she was as a child and concedes that she may still be just as bad now that she’s an adult. But she doesn’t care what people thought of her then (when she was a child in her book) and she still doesn’t now. It made her feel so real. I really, really, REALLY want to see more of her and her world in book two! *Stares at Heather again.*

I really want to discuss the White King with you… He was swoony, sexy, epic, wonderful, dreamy… I totally ship him and ___!!!!! But.. As you can see, just from that one little line, it’s hard to discuss this guy without spoilers. So PLEASE READ THE BOOK AND THEN WE CAN FANGIRL TOGETHER!!!! That being said, if you’ve read Heather’s Fate series, you know she writes pretty epic love triangles, ones in which you can’t help but love both guys and wish the girl could just pick both! However, I’ve been told this isn’t technically a love triangle.. A girl can hope, though, right?!!?!

Some other characters that deserve notable mentions are Wendy, Victor, Brom and Katrina – all characters from beloved classics! I could go on and on with this review, doing nothing but talking about the characters because they’re amazing! But where’s the fun in that? If you want to know more, go read the book! I promise, you won’t be disappointed! Also, I want to say that the villian picked for this book was.. Priceless! Perfect and epic and awesome. … I’m using those words a lot, aren’t I? I’m sorry, I can’t help it, THIS BOOK, YOU GUYS!!! But on a serious note, I really, really loved the villians Heather chose and I’m excited to see what happens in book two with them! I can’t name them because it would be a huge spoiler, but it was just.. perfect!

I touched on this briefly in my intro paragraph. But my favorite thing about this book was all the classic literary characters. Seeing how they’ve grown and matured (well, most of them have, anyway), was amazing. When you love a book, it’s hard not to wonder what happens to the characters AFTER their stories end. And with The Collectors’ Society, those characters don’t have an ‘end’ – they continue to live on and become even more awesome. Reading about all my favorite characters gave me this huge desire to re-read some of my favorite classics – even those NOT mentioned in The Collectors’ Society! And there are several classics I have still yet to read that I’m now dying to read twice as much as I was before. Getting to revisit those characters and those worlds made me nostalgic for their original stories.

I have so many things on my Wish List for book two. I’m hoping to see characters from Labyrinth and The Wizard of Oz, as well as several other classic favorites. I’d also love to see more of Mary’s world (as I’ve mentioned) in book two. I think this series is off to an amazing start and it can only get better! If you’re a reader, you’ll love seeing the different stories and beloved characters and how Heather ages those characters and incorporates those stories. I also think non-readers will love this – it’s a wonderful introduction to classics and may spark a love of (classic) reading in a non-(classic)-reader

The ending of this book was… Perfection. It wrapped a lot of things up nicely, so it felt like it could stand on its own. But it left just enough open that I’m excited for book two. I know you can’t tell AT ALL from my review *Stares at fangirly, gibberish review….* but I loved this book. Heather Lyons has once again written an epic story with wonderful characters and an amazing world – or worlds, I should say! Seriously, drop everything you’re doing and READ THIS BOOK!!!!

It all comes down to this . . .

Chloe Lilywhite has struggled for years to find her footing in a series of dangerous and demanding worlds. Creator, first tier Council member, and one of the most powerful Magicals in existence, she was little more than one of Fate’s pawns. But now, Chloe is back home and ready to call the shots. She knows what she wants and who she wants to be.

Except the Elders never got the memo.

Annar and Magical-kind are under attack. The lives of Chloe’s loved ones, and life as they know it, are at stake. Chloe's the key to taking the Elders down, but they won't go quietly into the night.

This time, neither will Chloe.

Hey everyone! Welcome to my stop on the A Matter of Forever tour! I’m very excited to be a part of this blog tour! Heather is amazing and I absolutely LOVED this book!!!! I hope you enjoy my review!

This book shattered my feels, brought me to tears and filled me with more joy than any other book ever has or ever will. Heather’s writing is so melodic and she crafted a gorgeous ending to an incredible series, one that will stay with me forever.

I feel like I say this every time, but Chloe has grown SO much from the first book to now. She started out as a young, frightened (though never helpless) girl and matured into a bright, strong, mature young woman. She fought harder than she has ever fought before. She knew when to give up, when to ask for help and when to keep pushing until she achieved her desired goals. She also knew when to let go… But I can’t explain that because of spoilers.

Jonah was… Wow. And Kellan? Omg.. Wow… First of all, I just want to say this: You know a love triangle is amazingly well-done when you root for one person, but know the MC will end up with the other – and you’re perfectly okay with that, because you know, deep down, it’s meant to be. Now, for those of you who know which Team I’m on, this may seem like a spoilers, though I can assure you, it’s not. And for those of you who don’t know which Team I’m on, you’ll need to read the books to truly find out! But it needed to be said because Heather is such a brilliant writer, she managed to pull off one of my all-time favorite love triangles EVER. And she did it in such an amazing way, I’m completely satisfied with the way things ended. I’m still heartbroken over certain things, but I’m completely satisfied.

It’s hard to say which twin matured more in this final book. For Jonah, he got over his trust and anger issues. He was no longer like a ticking time-bomb, ready to explode. When things needed to be asked or said, he asked them and said them. He was open and honest and so, so good to Chloe in this book. Then there was Kellan. Kellan had to grow up a LOT in this series. He had to accept so many things. In the past, he ran away from his problems rather than face them. But in A Matter of Forever, he accepted things and faced them head-on. He didn’t run; rather, he came to a mature decision, weighed the pros and cons and did what he felt was best for everyone involved.

Of course, no review of a Fate book would be complete without mentioning how much I adore Astrid, Callie, Cora, Cameron, Will, Raul and so many others. Unlike some books, where secondary characters are just that – secondary and in the background, Heather has crafted these amazing characters, family and friends, people you wish you could know in real life. I don’t want to say too much and spoil things, but I’m truly happy with where their stories ended – though still heartbroken for some of them.

The deaths in this book – and yes, I’m sad to say that there were several lives lost – dealt a crushing blow. I had to stop reading after two deaths in particular. I raged against them. I kept telling myself they hadn’t actually happen, they had to be a dream. I felt both losses just as greatly as the characters did. I’m still dealing with them, mourning the losses with a broken heart. The outcome of the one, well… Spoiler. So I can’t say, but I can say that at least the one was for the best. That’s not to say I’ll ever heal from that loss (I know, I’m speaking as if this truly happened in real life… but that’s how much these characters have come to man to me), but I know I’ll heal over time.

And yes, that brings me to say that my feels were utterly destroyed with this book. After four books and one novella, these characters have become like family to me. They feel so real and we’ve been through so much together, it’s hard to see them as fictional. Though we still have Kellan’s novella to look forward to, this is pretty much the end of this series and and I just can’t fathom it. I can’t imagine not having another book in this series to look forward to. It baffles me that this is the end and I won’t get to know what happens next for these characters.

But with that said, the ending was absolute perfection. I definitely cried several times throughout the book, but the end brought me tears of joy. I can’t imagine this series ending in any other way and I’m so, so happy with where all the characters stories ended.

This will, forever and always, be considered one of my Top Three favorite series’ of all time. I can see myself re-reading it for years to come. If you haven’t read this series, then you must. With realistic, lovable characters, a plot that is like nothing I have ever read and the most amazing, satisfying ending, I promise you, you will NOT be disappointed.

What if all the legends you’ve learned were wrong?

Brutally attacked by one god and unfairly cursed by another she faithfully served, Medusa has spent the last two thousand years living out her punishment on an enchanted isle in the Aegean Sea. A far cry from the monster legends depict, she’s spent her time educating herself, gardening, and desperately trying to frighten away adventure seekers who occasionally end up, much to her dismay, as statues when they manage to catch her off guard. As time marches on without her, Medusa wishes for nothing more than to be given a second chance at a life stolen away at far too young an age.

But then comes a day when Hermes, one of the few friends she still has and the only deity she trusts, petitions the rest of the gods and goddesses to reverse the curse. Thus begins a journey toward healing and redemption, of reclaiming a life after tragedy, and of just how powerful friendship and love can be—because sometimes, you have to sink in the deep end of the sea before you can rise back up again.

Hey everyone! Welcome to my stop on The Deep End of the Sea blog tour! I’m very excited to be a part of this blog tour! Heather is amazing and I absolutely loved The Deep End of the Sea!!! I hope you enjoy my review!

So many feels!!! Words cannot express how much I loved this book. I’m warning you now: my review won’t be coherent. It will be filled with feels, swooning, incoherent thoughts and so much fangirling, it’ll be contagious!

I’m a huge, huge, HUGE fan of Heather Lyons. I have been since day one, when I first read A Matter of Fate, the first in her Fate series. She’s an amazing writer, a great world-builder and an AMAZING character creator. Her Fate series has one of my all-time favorite love triangles.

And then she went and wrote a book about Medusa (like you’ve NEVER seen her before) and the Greek Gods. You guys should know by now that Greek Mythology is one of my FAVORITE things to read about. So one of my favorite authors writing Greek Mythology? YESSS. A hundred times YESSSS. Very early on, I knew I was going to fall in love with this book.

First of all, I love Medusa (or Dusa, as she is fondly nick-named by a certain someone – I’ll get more into that soon). She is an amazing, amazing character. In the original Greek Myth, she is painted as the villain. She turns people to stone. She’s a murderer. And then you read The Deep End of the Sea… And suddenly, you question every single thought you ever had regarding Medusa. All your opinions are called into question. You feel bad for Medusa and you begin to see her in a different light. Suddenly, she’s the victim. She was betrayed and cursed. Yet, Medusa does NOT play the victim card. She is strong and she fights back. She is willing to put her life at risk to save others. Bottom line, I absolutely loved Medusa almost immediately. My heart broke for her! But her story was an amazing one and the growth she experienced from beginning to end was epic.

Hermes is just… SWOON. I don’t know how else to describe him. He’s amazing, kind, gentle, sweet – the complete opposite of what Medusa expects from the Greek Gods. He stands up for what he believes in and he is extremely loyal to those who earn his friendship. Despite the fact that he has become Medusa’s friend over the last 2,000 years, he is still a God and she still distrusts the Gods because of everything that happened to her. She still tends to be wary of him at times, but her trust and love in him grow throughout the book. Overall, I love their relationship. It builds from something small into something big. And I’ll leave it at that, least I spoil you!

One of my favorite characters (aside from Medusa, of course) was Persephone. The Greek Myth of Persephone is one of my favorites! I love reading about it and I love retellings and modern takes on the Persephone myth. So seeing her in this book made me incredibly happy and excited! The Greek Gods were always depicted as cruel and brutal, so to see Persephone’s kindness and caring was in stark contract to that cruelty and brutality. The same goes for Hades – he’s the mighty, feared Lord of the Underworld and yet his character in this book is kind, though formidable when need be. And especially after what we learn later in the book… Well, let’s just say I absolutely LOVED Persephone and Hades and the direction their stories went in.

Least favorite characters? I think this is obvious, but Athena and Poseidon. I’m still not sure which one was crazier! They were both insane! I almost think Poseidon was crazier, for the fact that he felt justified in his actions. He was a true psychopath. But again, the revelations we learn near the end? Hah!

There were many important themes/concepts in this book, one of which revolved around victim-blaming and the notion that the victim is NOT at fault, that the victim was taken advantage of and hurt against their will and they are not to be blamed, though they may sometimes blame themselves. Another concept centered around the idea that all people in a specific group are the same – that if one person acts out, all are evil and should be feared or persecuted. We see in The Deep End of the Sea that that is NOT the case – Poseidon acted out, Athena acted out. They were cruel and hateful. Because of that, Medusa feared all the Gods. Yet Persephone, Hades, Hermes, Aphrodite – they were all kind to Medusa and she needed to learn to trust them, to not let her fears of some make her fearful of all. I found these themes to be incredibly powerful and touching. Finally, there was the concept that “violence is not picky when it comes to its victims.” Medusa realizes this and I think it’s an incredibly important realization for her. For those who have been a victim of any kind of crime and/or abuve (mental, emotional, physical or sexual, etc), ALL of these concepts are important for them to know and understand.

The revelations in the third part of the book were insane and I did NOT see them coming. I just.. I can’t… *Dies!!* Seriously, there’s no way to explain this without spoilers but I WILL say that I LOVED it so much!!! Like, my nerdy, Greek-loving self went crazy with the revelations we were given! It made me view so many characters in different ways and made me want to re-read the entire book right away so I could see everyone in their true light.

And that ending was… holy crap! I don’t even have words for how good it was! I’m really, seriously hoping we get to see a second book in this series or a companion in this world or, at the very least, I hope Heather writes more books with Greek Myths!!

I don’t think it needs to be said, but I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this book to everyone!!

Not long ago, Chloe Lilywhite seemingly had it all: a prized spot on the Magicals’ Council as lead Creator, a loving fiancé and Connection, and a wealth of good friends. But the poised young woman she projected was nothing more than a façade. Her parents all but disowned her. Power plays and accusations of murder within the Council rocked her confidence. And most difficult of all, her secret, a secondary Connection to Jonah’s twin brother, Kellan, became painfully impossible to resist. Desperate to gain control over her rapidly unraveling existence, Chloe did the unthinkable: she ran away.

Now living and working in Alaska under an alias, Chloe is slowly discovering who she is and, more importantly, who she wants to be. But the more she tries to leave the Magical world behind, the harder it becomes to stay hidden. The Elders are back with a vengeance, and the stakes have never been higher. Chloe finally has to make a choice: embrace her pre-ordained Fate or pave her own way in the worlds. One thing’s for sure, though—she’s finally up for the challenge.

I have loved this entire series, including Jonah’s novella, Beyond Fate – though I’m totally Team Kellan *Swoons* But A Matter of Truth is my favorite installment in the series, hands down. I could simply say, “I loved everything about it,” and end the review right there, because it’s true. But I’ll try to go into more detail, without stepping into spoiler territory.

First of all, I loved seeing Chloe away from Annar. I know, I know – How is that possible? Jonah and Kellan are in Annar! But it allowed us to see a different side of Chloe, to see her alone and on her own without anyone or anything influencing her or her actions and decisions. We get to see how Chloe deals with every day life, using little to no magic.

The cast of characters that Chloe is surrounded with in Alaska – Will, Cameron, Paul, Frieda, etc – is amazing. I especially liked Will and Cameron. Though Will is no Jonah (Or, Kellan, really), he’s an amazing person and he’s always there for Chloe, no matter what. And Cameron is the dad Chloe deserves to have. I was a little bit suspicious of Cameron, though. I can’t totally put my finger on why, but I just had this weird feeling. Turns out, I was partially right in my suspicions!

A few times, I was so desperate to know what was happening in Annar, I almost wished for some kind of dual POV. But not knowing, just as Chloe didn’t know, added to the anxiety of her eventual return, when she would have to face the consequences of her actions.

The coupling in these books always amuses me! I love Cora and Raul, but wish we could have seen more of them. Will and Callie were hysterical together, and I’m excited to see how that unfolds. As for Cameron and Astrid, they were adorable!

I really hated Chloe’s mom in A Matter of Fate (Fate #1). Like, I despised her. As of now, I’ve downgraded that to just “dislike,” though it borderlines on “like.” I DID enjoy Jonah attacking her parenting style, though we didn’t actually get to see what he said. It was still funny to imagine!

Jonah was… Despite being Team Kellan, I really felt bad for Jonah in AMOT. So, so many feels! We saw some sides to him in AMOT that I don’t think we’ve seen before. I liked that his and Chloe’s fighting was realistic. Despite Fate shoving them together, they had to really work together to mend their broken relationship. They didn’t immediately fall back into their old habits, and that was great. But I felt so, so bad for Kellan. He always seems get the short end of the stick! Especially with Sophie.. Man, she was insane and scary and I kept waiting for her to try something. I’m still convinced she will in the next book! All I know is, Chloe and Kellan need to watch their backs!

The revelations and twists in this book were amazing. And the ending was shocking! I couldn’t believe when I finished reading and it just ENDED like that! I need more! I want more!! I have to see what happens next! Ack!!

As usual, Heather Lyons did an amazing, fabulous job and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book! If you haven’t read these books… Well, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?? GO!!! Check them out on Amazon! You won’t regret it, I promise you!!

There are always two sides to every story . . .

His whole life, Jonah Whitecomb has strove to meet everyone’s expectations of him: the perfect student, dutiful son, loyal twin, accomplished surfer, and powerful Magical. But behind his carefully composed façade hides the truth of how his family has fallen apart, leaving Jonah more often than not feeling adrift. To complicate matters, he fell in love long ago with a girl in his dreams, one he’s never told anyone about, including his twin brother.

Just when life seems its bleakest, Jonah discovers that Chloe is real. Wanting to finally reach out and grab happiness for himself, he embarks on a journey to track down the girl of his dreams, only to find that happy endings aren’t always guaranteed, the best laid out plans can go horribly awry, and sometimes, you have to simply let yourself go along for the ride.

* Beyond Fate is Jonah’s point-of-view of the events of A Matter of Fate, and is a companion novella.

I don’t even know where to begin with this review… I feel like I’m betraying Kellan!! But there were so many Jonah feels in this book!!!!!!

Beyond Fate takes place a little bit before, then during, A Matter of Fate. It was so interesting to hear the story in his point of view. I especially loved seeing the whole Twin Connection mind thing between him and Kellan from his point of view! In A Matter of Fate, Chloe just sees them staring at each other. But from Jonah’s POV, we actually get to hear what they say to each other.

We get a better sense of who Jonah is, why he did what he did, and how he felt about the whole situation in A Matter of Fate. It’s eye-opening and mind-blowing, seeing things from his perspective. We also get to know certain people better, such as Astrid, Callie and Jonah and Kellan’s father. Clearly, I dislike their father. I think I stated that in my reviews of A Matter of Fate and A Matter of Heart – he’s so mean to Kellan and Jonah!

Callie is such a complex character, especially in Beyond Fate. We see more of her relationship with Jonah, and I can see where she is coming from better with her feelings and actions, but she got on my nerves a few times. In A Matter of Fate and A Matter of Heart, she’s a bit stronger, more outspoken. She was the opposite in Beyond Fate, but Jonah was breaking her heart, so I guess that makes sense! I still love Callie as a character and love her interaction with Chloe even more.

I’m totally and completely Team Kellan, but I definitely felt for Jonah in this, and seeing things from his eyes, I was better able to understand where he was coming from, and my heart broke for him several times. I just wanted to slap the people who were making him hurt, and hug him like crazy!

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this and seeing the events in A Matter of Fate from Jonah’s POV. I loved seeing the events that led up to A Matter of Fate, as well. I feel like I understand Jonah better, and I feel for him more. I’m still totally Team Kellan, and I can’t wait to read his novella, but I get Jonah more now than I did before. And as always, with all of Heather’s books, I highly, highly recommend this! But DEFINITELY read A Matter of Fate and A Matter of Heart first! It WILL spoil things, otherwise.

No longer in high school, Chloe Lilywhite is now living and working in Annar, the Magicals’ city-state plane of existence. Since moving, she’s joined the Council, gone on missions with the Guard, moved into her own apartment, and enrolled at the University of Annar. Plus, she’s happily engaged to be married to Jonah Whitecomb, the literal man from her dreams, not to mention her Connection. While she still struggles with aspects of her craft, Chloe feels like she’s finally coming into her own, especially after a difficult year that had her questioning nearly everything in her life.

After a brutal attack by the Elders, her life is turned upside down once more. Accusations fly throughout the Council and Guard, forcing Chloe to confront her worst fears about what’s she’s capable of as a Creator. And then there’s the matter of Kellan Whitecomb, Jonah’s twin brother and Chloe’s ex, who resurfaces after disappearing months before. Although Chloe chose Jonah, and despite their best efforts, the two find it hard to stay away from one another.

A Matter of Heart by Heather Lyons was so, so amazing. Heather did a fabulous job with this sequel. Sometimes, the second book in a series isn’t as good as the first book; it just can’t live up to the hype of the first book. But that is ABSOLUTELY NOT the case with A Matter of Heart – it stands on its own and is an overall amazing read!

As with A Matter of Fate, this book sucks you in from the very first page and takes you on a wild ride. There’s an action scene almost immediately, followed by a scene that holds some incredible insight and has some great moments between Chloe and Kellan (Kellan! Swoons!)

I absolutely love Chloe. Honestly, I’m pretty sure she’s one of my favorite MC’s ever. Her destiny as a Creator carries so much weight and responsibility. Yes, she complains sometimes and she does go through some mini-meltdowns in this book, but she still holds her head high and tries to think of others before herself. We also get to see Drunk Chloe again, and let me tell you, she’s hilarious. It’s so wrong, but I love Drunk Chloe!

If you read my review for A Matter of Fate, then you know I’m 100% Team Kellan. So it’s no surprise when I say: Jonah makes me soooo mad! He’s so quick to assume the worst, and I hate his temper. He needs to trust Chloe already! I mean, I get why he doesn’t and I guess at certain times (I admit reluctantly) he would be an idiot to trust her, what with her and Kellan’s history, but still. It’s irrational, but it irritates me! I think part of the problem was that I was just sick of the fighting, in general. I know no relationship is perfect, but how can they be soulmates with THIS much fighting? Didn’t they learn their lesson in A Matter of Fate? Clearly not. But it’s okay, because I want Chloe and Kellan to end up together, so she and Jonah can fight all they want! *Grins.*

There’s a LOT of tension between Chloe and Kellan in A Matter of Heart, especially in the beginning. There’s a funny scene where they trade insults, and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. And I even agreed with Kellan a few times!

I seriously love Callie. I know I said this in my review of A Matter of Fate, but it still holds true. I love her friendship with Chloe. She’s honest and blunt, and she tells it like it is, even when Chloe doesn’t want to hear it. Honestly, as far as friends go, I prefer Callie over Cora. There’s something about Cora that.. I can’t explain it. She’s a great character, but I just love Callie. Maybe it’s the WAY their friendship developed, but I feel like Chloe and Callie were MEANT to be friends. They just fit so well together.

The ending absolutely blew my mind. I didn’t see it coming, and I was shocked, to say the least. It was so sad, for everyone involved, and I’m really anxious to see how things are resolved in the third and final book, A Matter of Truth (out in November). Honestly, waiting for November is going to be so tough! I need to know what happens next! I need to see who she ends up with!

All in all, loved this book. I did get irritated with the characters – a lot – but in a good way, if that makes sense – I was so invested in this story line and these characters, I couldn’t help but yell at them when I thought they were being stupid, or cry with them when they were hurt and upset. It’s a great thing to read a book and be that invested in it – It means it’s well written and amazing. I hope that makes sense! And I highly, highly recommend this book, as well! You’ll swoon over Jonah and Kellan, trust me!
